LRID POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUAL (PPM) INFORMATION
Incorporated in 1969, the principal purposes of this organization are to initiate, sponsor, promote and execute policies and activities that will further the profession of interpretation of American Sign Language and English and the transliteration of English.
This organization shall be affiliated with the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) and shall uphold the purposes and abide by the rules and procedures established for affiliated chapters of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.
LRID supports RID’S statement:
"We acknowledge the pain and suffering being experienced by so many right now in response to the death of George Floyd.
We acknowledge the intersectional pain being born by our BlackDeaf community members, where audism often creates barriers to them even accessing accurate and relevant information in these matters. Furthermore, we recognize the added pain of our Black interpreters as they strive to serve our communities in the midst of our societal turmoil.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Floyd’s family and our communities as they grapple with our shared complicated history.
We condemn racism, discrimination, and senseless acts of violence. We stand with all people of color in the fight against racial injustice and inequality.
Black Lives Matter."
