We are submitting the following questions to the LCD staff.  If you have any additional questions or comments, please click the button below the list of  questions and fill out the Google Form by April 3, 2026.

What is it and when do I have to do it?

  • What is Registration? (overview)

  • Where do I find the types of Registration and requirements for each type?

  • What documentation do I get that verifies I am on the LCD Registry? (verification card, digital badge, etc.)

  • What happens to the current/old registry(ies)?

    • Is there still a new registry to be released? When?​

    • Is LCD encouraging interpreters to wait to register with the new Registry rather than registering now?

    • If I am on the current LCD Registry- what do I need to do?

    • How many interpreters are having issues with registering, and what are the common issues and work-arounds?

Who has to do it?

  • Who is required to register?

  • Can I still work as an interpreter in LA, if I'm not registered?

  • What provisions are being made for Deaf interpreters since no standards have been proposed?

  • What credentials must interpreters have/provide to work in legal settings?

  • Will remote (VRS/VRI) interpreters (non-Louisiana residents) be required to register?  How will LCD know who is providing services for LA residents?

  • What will the sanctions be against those who are working but not registered?

 

How do I do it?

  • What is the process for registering with LCD?

    • If I am certified (RID or BEI), what do I need to do, and by when?​

    • What is the web address?

    • Who do I contact if I'm having trouble completing the Registration forms online?

  • How do I ask for an exemption or special consideration?

    • What is the latest with the Oversight Committee?​

      • Advertisement, application and selection of members​

    • What is the turnaround time for a response?

 

How much does it cost to Register?

  • What does LCD do with the collected funds?

  • Where can we find the entire proposed Administrative Code for sign language interpreters?

  • What are the projected timelines for the final approval phase with the Health and Welfare Second Oversight Committee?

    • At what point (date) would the approval be too close to the implementation date, that the start date would be postponed to later than July 1, 2026?​

  • When and how will the official standards be published?

  • What is LCD doing to help us get ready?

    • How has LCD communicated the new requirements to interpreters? To LEAs? To interpreter referral agencies? To private businesses?​

    • How will LCD communicate the official standards once published?

  • Will LCD help with tests costs?
